Why organic

The way we farm and eat can make a huge difference to the future of our planet. We know that by caring about food and how it is grown and produced, we can make a positive impact to the planet. That is why, at DO IT ORGANIC, we love organic food, and we have done for over 30 years.  That is why organic food is our standard.

What is organic food?

Organic food is food grown without the use of chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers, genetic modification while practising crop rotation supporting biodiversity. Instead, farmers aim to create a natural balance between plants and animals to prevent crop failure. A healthy wildlife population can help prevents diseases. By naturally nourishing plants and crop rotation, the soil remains its high fertility. Instead of changing a plant (GMO), organic farming solves the problem at its root by preventing disease.

By using farming practices that benefit the whole food system, including people, wildlife, the planet and plants, they are able to produce high-quality organic ingredients. However, in order for something to be truly organic, it must meet a strict set of standards set out by the EU.

Organic farming and agriculture

Believe it or not, soil is an important tool for fighting climate change. There is more carbon stored in our soil than in all the plants and trees around the world. Therefore, healthier soils store more carbon, which, as we know, is the backbone of life on this planet. And organic farming is all about healthy soil.

Organic agriculture is based on four principles: health, ecology, fairness and care. Agriculture has a big impact on the environment as it covers almost 40 percent of the global land surface. Organic farming is about healthy soil, but alos cover cropping, crop rotation, organic no-till, promoting biodiversity and more. Organic farming involves less pollution of soil, keeping the soil healthy for generations to come.

For this reason organic isn’t just about food. It is about living in harmony with nature. And keeping the planet healthy. This is why we are committed to make 100% organic food the standard!

Our commitment to organic farmers and producers at origin is best expressed in the long-term relationships with our partners in agriculture. Our partners range from corporations that unite rice field farmers in India and support them via socio-economic projects to a farmer (and former colleague of DO IT ORGANIC) in Canada. All beautiful stories of people and companies with the same drive to make organic the standard and make the world a little better.

Farm to fork

The European Commision has published a strategic plan to accelerate a sustainable food system. This plan is part of the ‘’European Green Deal’’ (goal: reach net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050) and called ‘From farm to fork’. The F2F Strategy aims to make the EU food system fair, healthy and environmentally friendly. The strategy includes ambitious and concrete targets on pesticides, fertilizers and antimicrobials. The F2F target is set at 25% of EU farmland to be farmed organically by 2030.

Organic standards

The standards and requirements for organic food differ per country and per certification. Organic refers to the ways in which products were cultivated. In order to legally receive organic certification, the food must be at least 95% organic. An independent organization checks the organic products at least once a year. DO IT ORGANIC complies with many organic certifications, SKAL, USDA, Demeter, FairTrade IBD and many more.
